just picked up the cd 2 days ago and told myself i would listen to it properly before reviewing it. i had their first studio album and the tunes were cool but i felt robben ford hogged the limelight.......he wouldnt shut up and vinnie and haslip didnt get any solo's (maybe 1).
unfortunately its not so different with the live disc except the new tunes are very good and there is otmaro ruiz on keys to brighten it up.....and he certainly does.
as u people know i am not a huge vinnie fan but his playing on this disc is very tasteful and tasty!!!!! great chops and great feel and very inventive.........jimmy haslip takes a great solo on the last tune "blues MD" where guest sax player marc russo also burns it up!
the more i listen to the cd the more i like it and for a live cd the sound quality and mixing is superb.
definitely worth the money. go buy it!
(just think, u guys in L.A must go hear live shows and music like this CD all the time..........u lucky shits!)

interesting....
While I love Jing Chi, I must say I attended 3 nights, both sets and thought the live disc was not really that great. The only tune I really liked that they included was Hong Kong Incident. I thought they turned in much better performances of some of those other tunes on other nights, especially Going Nowhere.
In any case, I'm very glad they released it and I hope it does well so they release more albums. The studio one is one of my favorite Vinnie discs.

I agree Derek, it's not that great of a disc. Sound wise it's great.

Disappointment City. I was really looking forward to it. Vinnie's better with Landau anyway.

Just got the cd....I like it but playing-wise it's not much different from the studio cd. Vinnie's drum sound is great as ever though.

Just got my copy today and I am still in the process of listening to it right now... It's not that bad but I am not as touched as I thought I'd be.
Thanks to Otmaro Ruiz (my favorite keyboard player) for spicing it up in playing exciting solos... As usual...
Vinnie's great on it too...

I like Otmaro generally, but found the keyboard stuff to be pretty lame IMO on this disc. Bad patches everywhere. (I actually had to check and make sure DG wasn't playing keys!)

Derek,
Yeah I know what you mean, he's not at his best all over the CD. Some bad patches but not everywhere...
I was mainly refering to his solos...
By the way Derek, who is DG?
PS: I ordered 2 CD's from Audiophile Imports, one being Jing Chi Live, now I am listening to the other one being "Kim PLainfield/Lincoln Goines". All I can say after the 1st track is: WREXCELLENT intitial impact!!
I Love Kim PLainfield!!

Derek, since you got to see all three nights, a question please. Did Vinnie use the white Gretsch for the shows? I've seen photos of Jing Chi playing live (somewhere) and Vinnie's playing a red set.
DG = David Garfield?
